The Urology Department of the 1st Faculty of Medicine, Charles University and the General Hospital performs more than 7,000 specialized procedures annually and is one of the largest urology teaching institutions in the Czech Republic. The Department has successfully defended its current accreditation by the European Board of Urology (EBU) and the European Board of Paediatric Urology (EBPU). The highest European educational standards will remain guaranteed here until at least 2030, which significantly strengthens the prestige and quality of care for adult and pediatric patients.
"The EBU and EBPU accreditations are more than just a diploma on the wall for us. They guarantee that our residents are fully trained according to the rules of the European Urology Residency Curriculum and that patients receive care that meets the strictest international criteria," said Prof. MUDr. Viktor Soukup, Ph.D., FEBU, MHA, Head of the Urology Department of the 1st Faculty of Medicine, Charles University and General Hospital.
"The award also obliges us to push the boundaries of the field - whether it is robotic-assisted surgery, advanced reconstructive procedures or individualized oncological treatment. An accredited environment is key to such development," added doc. MUDr. Otakar Čapoun, Ph.D., FEBU, Deputy Head for Scientific Activities.
The residency program, which currently includes ten doctors in various stages of specialization, combines cutting-edge clinical practice, simulators, and intensive scientific activity. Thanks to international internships and multicenter studies, young urologists gain experience that they subsequently transfer to the care of Czech patients.
Maintaining double European accreditation confirms that the Urology Department of the First Faculty of Medicine, Charles University and the General Hospital remains a reference center for comprehensive urological care, education and research. It offers patients from all over the Czech Republic the certainty of treatment according to the highest international standards and the professional community a platform for further innovation and cooperation.
