NRL for tissue helminths

From 1 January 2023, the National Reference Laboratory for Tissue Helminthiasis is organizationally transferred to the Institute of Medical Biochemistry and Laboratory Diagnostics, the Primacy of Clinical Microbiology and the ATB Center. A new website is under construction.

Workplace characteristics

The laboratory performs examination of serum, vitreous and cerebrospinal fluid for the presence of specific antibodies against parasitic antigens; performs specific (including histopathology) examinations of various biopsy samples (including cyst content), blood smears, stool and urine. As the only laboratory in the Czech Republic, it conducts examinations for tropical parasitic infections caused by helminths, and among autochthonous diseases, it is the only one to conduct examinations for trichinellosis, cysticercosis and alveolar hydatidosis. By examining samples for multiple types of antigens and different types of reactions, it enables the differential diagnosis of helminthic infections and the exclusion of non-specific reactions in allergy sufferers, oncology patients and others with various types of immunodeficiency. Last but not least, NRL produces its own antigens and is thus able to perform reactions not commonly used, for which commercial kits are not available.

On June 29, 2021, the laboratory received a Certificate of Compliance with the R3 Audit of the National Authorization Center for Clinical Laboratories (NASKL) and is registered in the Register of Clinical Laboratories of NASKL ČLS JEP. He successfully defends the obtained accreditation every three years within the re-accreditation.

INFORMATION FOR SAMPLES

The NRL for tissue helminthiasis offers the possibility of examining biological material (blood, urine) for self-payers.

We examine IgG class antibodies against: larval toxocarosis, trichinosis, cystic or alveolar hydatidosis (echinococcosis), cysticercosis, hepatic fasciolosis, intestinal or urinary schistosomiasis, filariasis, strongyloidosis, angiostrongyloidosis and.

BLOOD COLLECTION

Patients who have not been taken blood for examination by a doctor are offered the possibility of collection at Collection center of VFN (Karlovo nám. 32, Prague 2 – building C2, ground floor; phone: +420 224 966 670), fee see price list.

Opening hours of the collection center: Mo - Fr 06:30 - 14:15

At the blood collection center, the patient will only report a blood collection requirement of about 5 ml of clotting blood (blood collection system - red, yellow Vacutainer).
