Radiotherapy VFN will open its doors on September 7th!

WORLD RADIOTHERAPY AWARENESS DAY

September 7th is World Radiotherapy Awareness Day (WRAD). Its aim is to raise awareness of the importance of radiotherapy in the treatment of cancer, to bring this treatment method closer to the public and to support the availability of modern technologies for patients who need them. On this day, you can come and see radiotherapy workplaces and find out what modern radiation treatment entails.

The date of September 7 was not chosen by chance. It was on this day in 1953 that a cancer patient was first treated with radiation at a linear accelerator. The use of ionizing radiation marked a significant shift in the treatment of cancer, and radiotherapy is now one of the cornerstones of modern cancer treatment.

Radiotherapy is not just “irradiation”

For some types of cancer, radiotherapy can be a full-fledged alternative to surgery. It is a non-invasive treatment in which ionizing radiation is precisely targeted at tumor cells with the aim of reducing or completely removing the tumor. Very often, radiotherapy is combined with other methods of oncological treatment, for example, surgery, chemotherapy or immunotherapy.

The treatment is not just about one doctor or the device itself. A whole team of experts collaborates on its precise planning and execution – radiation oncologists, radiological physicists and radiological assistants.

Come see how radiotherapy works

On the occasion of World Radiotherapy Day, on Monday September 7th from 3 p.m. will carry out Open day at the radiotherapy department of the General University Hospital in Prague (Oncology Clinic, U Nemocnice 2, building A8, basement). Visitors can look forward to a short tour of the radiotherapy departments, demonstrations of equipment and learn more about treatment planning. They will also have the opportunity to meet the team of doctors, physicists and radiological assistants and ask questions about radiotherapy.

The action is intended the general public, patients and their loved ones, as well as students of medicine and health sciencesIts goal is not only to show the possibilities of current radiotherapy, but also to help eliminate fears of the unknown and promote open communication between patients and healthcare professionals.

The program continues from 6 p.m. with entertaining presentations and a debate on Faculty of Nuclear Physics and Engineering, Czech Technical University, Břehová 7, Prague 1.
