World Pulmonary Hypertension Day

Today is World Pulmonary Hypertension Day. The Dancing House will also be symbolically lit up in blue for patients in the evening!

The Pulmonary Hypertension Center in the Czech Republic can only be found at the General Hospital. In its 21 years of existence, it has performed more than 500 operations on Czech and foreign patients and is one of the few European institutions where a unique operation for thromboembolic pulmonary hypertension is performed.

Pulmonary hypertension is a rare but serious condition that causes high blood pressure in the pulmonary arteries. This puts strain on the right ventricle of the heart, which can lead to heart failure. Typical symptoms include:

  • shortness of breath on exertion
  • fatigue
  • dizziness or fainting – symptoms that are often underestimated or confused with other diseases, e.g. asthma.

How to prevent hypertension?

  • Include brisk exercise for 30-40 minutes a day,
  • avoid alcohol and nicotine,
  • reduce salt (a teaspoon per day),
  • and add a serving of fruit or vegetables to every meal.
