Difficult-to-treat children at the VFN Dentistry Department
The health insurance program allows for fully covered outpatient treatment under general anesthesia or analgosedation. This is a fundamental improvement in the availability of care for pediatric patients who cannot be treated in the usual way. Treatment under general anesthesia or analgosedation is intended primarily for pediatric patients who cannot undergo the procedure in the standard way. Most often, these are young children with low cooperation ability, patients with mental or psychological disabilities, children with behavioral disorders and patients with serious general illnesses.
"Patients are admitted to our office based on the recommendation of the registering dentist. If the child is in the care of other specialists, such as a child psychiatrist or neurologist, it is necessary to provide up-to-date medical reports. The indication is always individual and is based on a comprehensive assessment of the health condition," explains MDDr. Klára Pirunčík, MBE, head of the pediatric dentistry department.
After completing specialized care, the child returns to the care of their registering dentist. "Our office is not used for long-term registration, but to solve specific problems that cannot be handled in regular practice," says the doctor.
There are only a very limited number of specialized pediatric dental clinics in the Czech Republic that systematically focus on this group of patients. “We see inclusion in the insurance companies’ pilot program as confirmation of the high professional level and systematic work of our team,” adds MDDr. Klára Pirunčík, MBE.
