The aim of the certified course is to prepare non-medical healthcare professionals (general nurses, paramedics) for specific tasks in the care of patients after stroke. Graduates of the course will gain special professional competence. The course covers care from the acute phase of the disease to long-term follow-up care. It emphasizes strengthening the specific competencies of general nurses and paramedics in the care of patients with stroke.

 

In addition to basic and specific nursing care, systematic education is also important, which contributes to the prevention of stroke recurrence and improvement of quality of life.

 

The course also emphasizes the education of family, relatives, and volunteers involved in patient care.

 

The course is implemented in cooperation with the Neurology Clinic of the VFN.

 

 

Entry requirements:

 

• End of the adaptation process
• Eligibility to practice a health profession without professional supervision
• At least 3 years of experience in a neurological workplace (ICU, standard inpatient ward, vascular neurological outpatient clinic and neurosonology laboratory)

 

 

Schedule:

 

The total course duration is 80 hours, of which 40 hours are theoretical and 40 hours are practical.

 

 

Course date:

 

Theoretical part: 23. – 27. 3. 2026 (15 places)

Practical part: April 20 – 24, 2026 (7–8 places)

                         May 18th – 22nd, 2026 (7–8 places)

 

 

Venue:

 

Theoretical part: classrooms of the Department of Education, Na Bojišti 1, Prague 2, 2nd floor

Practical part: Center for Highly Specialized Care for Stroke Patients, Neurological Clinic of the General Hospital, Kateřinská 30, Prague 2

 

 

Termination method:

 

Theoretical part: concluded with a written test, which also includes an assessment of mRS and FAST knowledge

Practical part: concluded with an interview, summary and feedback
