Expert conference on FH disease
The aim of a professional conference under the auspices of the Czech Presidency of the Council of the EU, patient organizations FH and VFN Prague is to summarize the importance of comprehensive screening of the hereditary disease FH (Familial Hypercholesterolemia) in pediatric patients.
The conference will take place on Tuesday, September 6, 2022 in the premises of the Senate of the Parliament of the Czech Republic with the participation of the Minister of Health Vlastimil Válk. International experts and representatives of patient organizations will speak at the event. One of the speakers is Professor Michal Vrablík from III. VFN internal clinics.
FH is manifested by a high level of "bad" LDL-cholesterol, which is deposited in the walls of blood vessels and significantly contributes to the development of atherosclerosis (hardening of blood vessels). Atherosclerosis manifests itself early in those affected, usually between 35 and 60 years of age, in the form of ischemic heart disease, myocardial infarction or, for example, cerebrovascular accident (stroke).
If one of the parents is affected, the probability of the disease in children, regardless of their gender, is 50%. In the Czech Republic, about 40,000 people are affected by the hereditary disease FH.
