Health Day in Karlák: over 700 examinations
Despite the rainy weather, dozens of people arrived at Karlovo náměstí on Tuesday, June 9, to take advantage of free preventive examinations as part of the traditional Health Day. Doctors and health workers performed more than 700 free examinations and expert consultations in a single afternoon.
The results confirm the importance of early detection of disease. For example, our doctors and health workers detected 15 suspicious skin findings, including 3 cases of suspected melanoma, 10 cases of lung dysfunction, 9 cases of high blood pressure, and 12 cases of increased fatty liver or liver compaction, which required further specialist examination. Many visitors thus received important information about their health status and recommendations for further care.
Visitors also had access to a wide range of preventive and educational activities – from breast and testicular self-examinations, through smoking cessation counseling, to first aid demonstrations, fitness tests, and simulations of the effects of alcohol and drugs on human perception. There was also great interest in physiotherapy counseling focused on healthy backs.
The event also included an accompanying program on stage. VFN experts discussed with visitors the prevention of diabetes and obesity, the risks of melanoma, and the principles of first aid in practice. The event was accompanied by moderator Adéla Gondíková.
The Health Day was personally visited by the Minister of Health, Adam Vojtěch, and was also attended by the Director of the General Hospital, Assoc. Prof. Ján Dudra, Dean of the First Faculty of Medicine, Charles University, Prof. Martin Vokurka, Deputy Mayor of Prague 2, Lucie Pechová, Director of the State Institute of Health, MUDr. Barbora Macková, and Deputy for Non-Medical Health Professions at the General Hospital, Mgr. Petra Camprová.
The Health Day was organized by the General Hospital of the Czech Republic and the Ministry of Health of the Czech Republic in cooperation with the State Institute of Public Health and the Hygiene Station of the City of Prague. The event was held with the support of the City Hall of Prague and the Prague 2 District.
