New birthing center U Apolinář

A modern birth center costing tens of millions of crowns started the general reconstruction of the GPK and offers women in labor a comfortable environment and privacy.

For the first time in 30 years, the unique historical building of the Obstetrics and Gynecology Clinic of the General Faculty Hospital and the 1st Faculty of Medicine of the Charles University has undergone major modernization. The maternity hospital "u Apolinář" underwent its first partial reconstruction last year and now offers a modern birthing center with cozy birthing rooms, a hall, barrier-free access, a modern reception and, above all, privacy. Doctors and midwives can now offer top-notch care for mothers and newborns, which the clinic has been providing for 150 years, in modern and intimate conditions corresponding to the level of obstetric and perinatological care of the 21st century.

The gynecology-obstetrics clinic, whose perinatology center saves premature babies and concentrates at-risk mothers from all over the Czech Republic, has not yet undergone any overall renovation in its 150 years of existence. "At Apolinára, patients receive top-notch perinatological and neonatological care, and it is great that this care will now be supplemented with state-of-the-art equipment, which will ensure even greater comfort for patients and staff. Greater psychological well-being is one of the key factors not only for the birth itself, but also for the postpartum care of mothers and newborns. Thank you very much to everyone who contributed to this piece." stated the Minister of Health Prof. MD Vlastimil Válek, CSc., MBA, EBIR.

One of the three largest maternity hospitals in the Czech Republic, where approximately 4,000 babies are born each year, only had delivery rooms separated by screens.. "The current reconstruction of the delivery rooms and one operating theater for more than 60 million crowns is the first stage of the overall reconstruction of the historical area of the provincial maternity hospital. Next year, we would like to announce an architectural competition for the general reconstruction and completion of the entire complex. We assume that in 2026 the construction of a completely new neonatology pavilion could begin. Thanks to the support of our founder, the gynecology-obstetrics clinic will also move technically, with equipment and interiors to the high level that it has maintained for decades in terms of expertise." states VFN director prof. MD David Feltl, Ph.D., MBA.
