Uterine surgery without abdominal scars
Laparoscopic uterine surgery without abdominal scars? It's possible! Doctors at Apolinář are the first in the Czech Republic to perform hysterectomy using the new vNOTES method.
Hysterectomy is one of the most common gynecological operations. The modern minimally invasive technique vNOTES (vaginal Natural Orifice Transluminal Endoscopic Surgery) allows the uterus to be removed without abdominal incisions, using an endoscopic camera and surgical instruments inserted through the vagina. Specialists from the Department of Gynecology, Obstetrics and Neonatology of the 1st Faculty of Medicine of Charles University and the General Hospital of Prague have been the first to perform this method in the Czech Republic since January this year. The procedure is associated with less postoperative pain, shorter hospitalization and a faster return to normal life. The introduction of the method expands the spectrum of surgical procedures and allows the selection of treatment as precisely as possible according to the specific needs of the patient.
"Vaginal hysterectomy is not a new operation, it has been performed in gynecology for a long time. However, the vNOTES method brings a new principle. Thanks to endoscopic imaging, the surgeon can better assess the situation in the abdominal cavity than in classical vaginal surgery, where the operation is performed mainly by direct vision and touch," says MUDr. Jan Dvořák, Ph.D., a specialist physician from the Department of Gynecology, Obstetrics and Neonatology of the First Faculty of Medicine of Charles University and the General Hospital.
