Workplace characteristics
The Phoniatric Clinic is the only state-run institution in the Czech Republic that can provide comprehensive diagnostic and treatment care in the field of phoniatrics, audiology and clinical speech therapy (outpatient, inpatient and in a rehabilitation clinic and hearing center). It has a number of diagnostic and treatment options that are not available elsewhere in the Czech Republic. The advantage is the implementation of team care from diagnostics to rehabilitation care.
Foniatrie is a medical field that deals with the physiology and pathophysiology, diagnosis and treatment of voice, speech and hearing disorders, ie functions that play a decisive role in human communication.
From a medical point of view, audiology is a medical field whose subject of interest is human hearing. It deals with the examination of hearing, treatment and rehabilitation of the hearing impaired. In general, audiology is a field of science that lies at the interface between biological and technical sciences and deals with the fields of physiology and pathophysiology of hearing.
Clinical speech therapy is a non-medical medical field dealing with the diagnosis, therapy and possible prevention of speech communication disorders, language disorders and communication-related disorders of cognitive and motor orofacial functions, including primarily swallowing and food intake disorders (dysphagia).
The Phoniatric Clinic runs an educational program for students of medical and non-medical fields throughout the year, including theoretical teaching, clinical practice, and internships.
