Workplace characteristics

The Phoniatric Clinic is the only state institution in the Czech Republic that can provide comprehensive diagnostic and medical care in the field of phoniatrics, audiology and clinical speech therapy (outpatient, inpatient and rehabilitation hospital and hearing center). It has a number of diagnostic and treatment options that are not available elsewhere in the Czech Republic. The advantage is the implementation of team care from diagnostics to rehabilitation care.

Foniatrie is a medical field that deals with the physiology and pathophysiology, diagnosis and treatment of voice, speech and hearing disorders, ie functions that play a decisive role in human communication.

From a medical point of view, audiology is a medical field whose subject of interest is human hearing. It deals with the examination of hearing, treatment and rehabilitation of the hearing impaired. In general, audiology is a field of science that lies at the interface between biological and technical sciences and deals with the fields of physiology and pathophysiology of hearing.

Clinical speech therapy is a non-medical medical field, dealing with diagnostics, therapy and possible prevention of speech disorders, language means and communication-related disorders of cognitive and motor orofacial functions, including in particular swallowing and eating disorders (dysphagia).
